1938 MVP went to Mel Hein, Center, New York Giants. From 1938-46 the award from the NFL was the Joe Carr Trophy. In 1957-75 the awards came from the Associated Press, after 75, there was the AP award but there was also the Pro Football Writers of America. Many times they picked the same one, but not always.
