Wright played 4 full seasons with the Boston Red Stockings (1871-1874 at centerfield and pitcher) and was manager of the Red Stockings, Providence Grays, and Philadelphia Quakers/Phillies between 1871-1893. He was also the center fielder and captain of the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings, the first openly professional Baseball team in U.S. history.
