Nobody has been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame based EXCLUSIVELY on their work as a coach. 23 people have been selected because of their efforts as a manager, and many of these were coaches at one point in their careers. The same is true for many players.

Babe Ruth, for example, was a coach for the Brooklyn Dodgers at the end of his career, and was part of the first five people elected to the HoF.
