James Nesmith in Springfield Mass

AnswerNO James niessmith created Basketball but not the NBA

The founders of the National Basketball Association was a group of Ice Hockey arena owners in the Northeast. It was first called the BAA, the Basketball Association of America, but later merged with a rival league, to create the NBA. The founder of basketball itself was James Naismith, in 1891.

Actual answer:

Dr Arthur Gulick assigned the duty of finding a suitable form of exercise that groups could participate in together to Dr. James Naismith, a Canadian, and founder of the University of Kansas Basketball program, while they were involved with the Springfield Massachusetts YMCA in 1891, and the sport of basketball was born.

The NBA formed when the old NBL and BAA came together, and the NBA recognizes it's inaugural season at 1946-47. The individuals who are most responsible were Jewish men, Eddie Gottlieb and Leo Ferris.
