Maharaja Ranjit Singh , Sher-e-Punjab (The Lion of the Punjab) (November 13, 1780 in Gujranwala, Mughal Empire-June 20, 1839 in Lahore, Sikh Empire). He was the first Maharaja of the Sikh Empire. At the Harmandir Sahib, much of the present decorative gilding and marblework date back from the early 1800s.
