As of October 1, 2007 no woman has ever run a sub four minute mile. The current women's record is 4:12.56 by Svetlana Masterkova of Russia, set on August 14, 1996.
A lot. Around 300 according to this. "Roger Bannister of England ran the first recorded sub-four-minute mile when he posted a 3:59.4 in 1954. The world record for the mile has since shifted down to 3:43.13 held by Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco, but running a mile under four minutes still remains an elusive accomplishment. True is one of only an estimated three hundred Americans to have ever run a mile under the four-minute mark." http://thedartmouth.com/2007/06/22/sports/true/
no women has run 2 miles in 4 mins. heck no person has run 2 miles in 4 minutes. the fastest mile is 3:43.

Roger Bannister ran the first sub four-minute mile on May 6, 1954 during an event between British AAA and Oxford University at Iffley Road Track in Oxford.
It was first achieved in 1954 by Roger Bannister in 3'59.4". The 'four minute barrier' has since been broken by many male athletes, and is now the standard of all professional middle distance runners. In the last 50 years the mile record has been lowered by almost 17 seconds.
Was first to run a mile in under four minutes
Don't believe it has been done. The mile is not an Olympic distance.
Murray Halberg
I don't know. My son ran a 2 minute quarter mile today. This was his first attempt at the quarter mile.
Roger Bannister was the first man to break the four minute mile. He did it in May, 1954 at a meet in England, I believe with a time of 3:59.4. He was running with others that also had the potential. I guess you could say that the conditions were just right for him to break the record.
