Zydrunas Ilgauskas is the second tallest right now and Yao Ming is the second tallest NBA player ever.
This is a difficult question to answer properly. Normally I would say it would be the person who, when measured by a standard NCAA or NBA tape measure, records more inches than any other person on the team. But this is complicated somewhat because the rules generally state that the TALLEST player must also be the LONGEST player when he is lying on the floor and can be measured horizontally. After you have measured all the players in both dimensions, lateral and longitudinal, the one who is both tallest and longest can be said to be the tallest player on the basketball team. Phil
