Professionally, the Arizona Cardinals are the oldest team in the NFL, being founded in 1898 as the Morgan Athletic Club. The Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears are the next oldest teams, both being founded in 1919. The Bears (as the Decatur Staleys) and the Cardinals (as the Racine Cardinals) both joined the NFL in 1920 as founding teams. The Packers joined a year later in 1921.

If you want to get technical, the Green Bay Packers would actually be the oldest team, as you can trace their lineage back to 1896 to semi-professional teams that played in Green Bay. However, they did not officially become the Packers until 1919, and therefore are not considered the oldest.

Continuing on, the current New York Giants would be next on the list, having been founded in 1925, followed by the Lions, who were founded in 1929 as the Portsmouth Spartans.

Contrary to popular belief, the Giants were not founded in 1919, or in 1921, as the 1919 team folded the same year, and the 1921 team folded the following year in 1922. Other than the name, neither one of those teams have any relation to the current New York Giants.

The Arizona Cardinals. They were founded in Chicago in 1898. Along with the Bears, they're the only two teams remaining from the NFL's inaugural season in 1920. (The Packers, who were founded in 1919, joined a year later.)

Of the teams that were charter members of the American Professional Football Association (the name was changed to National Football League in 1922) only two remain:

1) Chicago Bears - The Bears played in 1920 as the Decatur Staleys and moved to Chicago in 1921. The name was changed to Bears in 1922.

2) Arizona Cardinals - The Cardinals played in 1920 as the Chicago Cardinals. They moved to St. Louis in 1960 and to Phoenix in 1988. The name was changed to the Arizona from Phoenix in 1994.
