There is no correct answer but arguments can be made for many players but Dan Marino, Joe Montana, Barry Sanders, Sammy Baugh, Walter Payton, Lawrence Taylor, Dick Butkus, Reggie White, Jerry Rice or Jim Brown seem to be a pretty solid top 10
Walter Payton is the greatest player ever to play in the NFL. He is not the greatest running back, but over all, no one matches Payton's skills.
Walter Payton is good but, Jamarcus Russell is the best ever. If you don't know who he is, Jamarcus Russell is a future hall of famer. He is the only qb in history to be able to throw a straight 80 yard pass. He can even throw 60 yards on knee. In 2009, he lead his team(The Oakland Raiders) to a victory over the defending world champion Pittsburgh Steelers. The guy is the best ever. However, he retired early becasue his knee was shattered in the off-season. If he would have stayed with the Oakland Raiders, he would have for sure won a superbowl.
There have been many great players in NFL history. On the defensive side would by far be Lawrence Taylor. As an outside linebacker, Taylor defined that position by setting a great example on how it should be played. But on the offensive side it is much more difficult. It is hard to choose between these 5 players: Dan Marino, Brett Favre, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice and Barry Sanders. Some may argue Emmitt Smith into the conversation( who holds the record for most career rushing yards with over 18,000). But I believe he is overrated. He only ran for that many yards because he played that many seasons(15). He averaged about 1223 yards a year which by far amazing but not amazing enough to surpass Barry Sanders as the best running back in NFL history. Barry Sanders is considered the best of all running backs because he ran for 0ver 1000 yards in his first ten seasons. That is Unbelievable!
Tony Gonzalez of the Atlanta Falcons. He's not only the best in the NFL right now, he's the best in the history of the NFL.
Troy Polamolu
Most likely Jerry Rice. He is considered by some as the best wide receiver of all-time.
