Paul Butler is the inventor of the baseball cleat.
The earliest forms of Football (Soccer) boots were developed in the early 1800's in Great Britain. These were relatively crude boots which were often hard leather boots (similar to modern day Work boots) with studs affixed to the bottom. In the early 1950's, The Golden Team of Hungary had a boot based upon a leather dress shoe with studs on the bottom made for them by an Italian shoemaker. This boot was much lighter and more comfortable but left them open to injuries. This boot was then improved upon by Adi Dassler (Adidas) and developed into the first modern type of Football boot. I researched this as much as I could but there are various accounts of when the first modern day boot appeared.

There are three main types of cleats available for sports shoes: metal cleats, molded cleats, and turf cleats. Metal cleats provide excellent traction on soft ground, molded cleats are versatile and suitable for various surfaces, and turf cleats are designed for artificial turf surfaces.
