After walking the next batter, opposing pitcher Bob Purkey, Ed Palmquist replaced Koufax. The Dodgers lost 4-3, Purkey was credited with the win, to raise his record to 5-2, while Koufax's W-L record fell to 1-8. Koufax finished the 1960 year with an 8-13 record (his last sub .500 pitching season).
