On June 2, 1925, Lou Gehrig started at first base, replacing Wally Pipp.

There were two stories regarding this replacement. One was that Pipp sat out the game due to a headache. The other was that manager Miller Huggins benched him and other veterans in order to shake up a slumping lineup.
