Dan Issel was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in the 8th round (3rd pick, 122nd overall) of the 1970 NBA Draft. The same season he was also drafted by the Kentucky Colonels of the ABA and ended up playing there, until the 1975-76 when he moved to the Denver Nuggets of the ABA. A year later the Nuggets moved to the NBA following the ABA-NBA merger in June 1976. Issel played in Denver until his retirement following the 1984-85 season.
