The earliest mention of Baseball was in a 1744 British publication. However the sport became a popular pastime for kids in America in the late 1700's and early 1800's. Even though it was popular before, the first, official, fully documented game took place on June 4th, 1838.

Baseball was first played in Hoboken, NJ in 1839. The game itself was invented by Abner Doubleday of Cincinati officially in the mid 1860s. The first professial team were the Cincinati Redlegs (later shortened to Reds), who went undefeated through 192 games. More basic and advanced rules were added to the game by Alexander Cartwright.
