Lenin was exiled by the government to Shushenskoe, Siberia. He was released in 1900 and left Russia in self-imposed exile spending time in various countries including Switzerland, Belgium and England.

Lenin lived in several places in exile. Formal exile was in Siberia. Exile to escape arrest by the Tsarist regime was in Switzerland and other western European countries. Exile to escape arrest by the Provisional Government was in Finland.
