The last MLB forfeit was August 10, 1995 in a game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. It was 'ball night' and the Dodgers handed out souvenir baseballs as a promotion. In the bottom of the 9th inning with the Cardinals leading 2-1, Dodgers right fielder Raul Mondesi was called out on strikes for the first out and then ejected for arguing with the home plate umpire. Dodgers manager Tom Lasorda came out to argue and was also tossed. Fans began throwing the souvenir baseballs onto the field and Cardinals manager Mike Jorgensen ordered his team off the field for their safety. The grounds crew picked up all of the balls and the Cardinals returned to the field only to have more fans throw the balls onto the field. The umpires immediately declared the Cardinals winners of the game by forfeit.
