College Football was suspended during the 1905-06 season when Rough Rider himself President Theodore Roosevelt convened a conference of football coaches and officials to reconstruct and hence reform the game. Teddy's reforms, including the introduction of the forward pass and other rule changes, were taken up.

It should be noted numerous high schools and colleges - most recently Hofstra, have dropped or abandoned football as an athletic practice due to safety issues (accidents) or the all too typical monetary restraints.

Bayonne High temporarily suspended football some time in the late thirties- but the grid came back.
