Lou Gehrig in my eyes was the greatest 1st baseman to ever lace up cleats for any team but he never had 500 homers or 3000 hits, his carrere was cut short due to ALS, he past away in 1941 when he was only 39 years old. He had to retire in 1939 when he was diagnosed with ALS he said some of the most famous words in all of Baseball that day. "Today...i concider myself...the luckest man...on the face of the Earth" he wore the number 4 for the New York Yankees and his jersey was the first to ever be retired.

July 4th, 1939. The last game he played was on April 30th, 1939. He stayed on with the team, sitting in the dugout even through the four game World Series they won that year.
