He stayed on as a manager for the Indians, Giants, and Orioles into the 1991 season. After being fired by the Orioles, he went to work for MLB as their Director of Discipline.

When MLB bought the Montreal Expos from Jeffrey Loria in 2002, Robinson became their manager and stayed on through the 2006 season. The Expos became the Washington Nationals in 2005 and Robinson was their first manager.
