IOC >>>>> USOC \/---------------\/ W.T.F. >>> USAT The Olympic Games are run by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Each country has its own National Olympic Committee recognized by the IOC. In the United States, it is the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC). Each sport must have an international governing body that regulates the sport world wide as recognized by the IOC. For Taekwondo that organization is the World Taekwondo Federation (W.T.F.) located in Seoul, South Korea. Individuals and schools can not become members of the World Taekwondo Federation. The W.T.F. consists of national Member Associations which form Continental Unions. Each country must have a national Taekwondo Governing Body ("NGB" or "NTGB," or "TNGB") which is approved by that country's national Olympic Committee, and recognized by the World Taekwondo Federation. In the United States, the current NGB recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee and the W.T.F. is the USA Taekwondo (USAT). (see related links below) Any Taekwondo student of any school or organization can become a registered member of the USAT without having to leave your school or train elsewhere. School owners must register as an approved USAT club so their students may join. Coaches and Referees must attend special seminars to become trained and certified for the Olympic Rules set forth by the World Taekwondo Federation.
The governing body of the Olympic Games. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is a permanent committee entrusted with the control and development of the modern Olympic Games. It is responsible for ensuring that the Olympic Games are celebrated in the spirit that inspired their revival in 1894. The IOC elects its own members. Each member speaks either French or English and lives in a country with a National Olympic Committee, approved by the IOC, to promote the Olympic movement and amateur sport in that country. In 1966, the IOC created a body, the International Olympic Committee Medical Commission, to combat doping. It is now divided into four subcommissions with responsibilities that include: combating doping; helping athletes to improve their performances without contravening basic principles; enabling athletes to avoid injury; and disseminating information, such as a code of ethics, to physicians treating athletes and to other interested people.
