The Cubs first year of play was in 1870 as the Chicago White Stockings. There was no major league at the time and the White Stockings scheduled games against different teams in different cities. The following year the National Association was formed, the first major league, and they entered the league also as the White Stockings.

The first major league game in Wrigley Field was played April 23, 1914 between the Chicago Chi-Feds and the Kansas City Packers. Chicago won 9-1. At the time, the stadium was known as Weeghman Park, named after the owner of the Chicago Chi-Feds. These two teams played in the Federal League which was a major league in 1914 and 1915.

The first night game at Wrigley field was played August 8th, 1988 (8-8-88). That game was rained out and so the first official night game was played the following night, August 9th, 1988.

That would be 1927. Prior to that the ballpark was called Cubs Park between 1920-1926 and prior to that it was called Weeghman Park.
