Obviously, the top 5 are up to one's discretion. That said ...

1) Bob Beamon of the United States with an 8.90 meter (29 feet, 2 1/2 inches) long jump at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City. This jump broke the existing world record by 55 cm (21 3/4 inches).

2) Roger Bannister of Great Britain running a mile in 3:59.4 in 1954 to become the first person to run a mile in less than four minutes.

3) Gertrude Ederle of the United States swimming the English Channel in 14 hours, 31 minutes in 1926. Not only was she the first woman to swim the Channel but she broke the existing record by more than two hours.

4) Edwin Moses of the United States winning 107 consecutive 400 meter hurdles competitions between 1977-1987.

5) Birgit Fischer of East Germany/Germany winning Olympic gold medals in canoeing in 6 different Games.

Please add to this with what you think are the top individual sports feats.

I've poured enough drinks to know that people don't always want advice—they just want to talk.
