Vladimir Lenin led the Russian Revolution in 1917. After the accompanying civil war in 1918, Lenin, along with his fellow Bolsheviks claimed victory, and declared Russia a Soviet government. He introduced the Soviet Union's New Economic Policy and changed the name of the Bolshevik Party to the Communist Party in 1918
