Earl "Curly" Lambeau was the Green Bay Packers (ACME Packers) first coach. He coached the team from 1919 to 1949.
They are named this because when they first began they were sponsored by the Acme packing corporation. It was how they could afford the equipment and salaries. As time went on and Acme went away they became the Green Bay Packers instead in honor of the city they play in.

Green & Yellow
Curly Lambeau chose navy blue and gold as the original team colors for the Green Bay Packers.
The original colors of the packers meant cheese. First, they picked yellow, then they didn't know what to pick so they picked green.
The Packers colors are green and gold. Actually it's Green and Yellow. The New Orleans Saints, and the San Francisco 49ers are gold.
The Green Bay Packers were founded on August 11, 1919 by former high-school football rivals Earl "Curly" Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun. Lambeau solicited funds for uniforms from his employer, the Indian Packing Company and the team was first known as the Indian Packers.
