The sacred truce is when all the city states where at war in ancient Greece, so to allow people to get to the Olympic games safely, they called a sacred truce. This made the city states of Greece stop fighting with each other, this went on for 1 month at the start but then it eventually lengthened to three months to allow people to go home safely aswell.

During the truce, wars were suspended, armies were prohibited from entering Elis or threatening the Games, and legal disputes and the carrying out of death penalties were forbidden.
