Was there ever a former Pittsburgh Steelers player named Roderick Moore?

Yes he played full back. He now serves as the Athletic Director and Technology teacher at Surrattsville High School in Clinton Maryland. There is no listing of this player on the Steelers all-time roster.

Why were the Pittsburgh Steelers nicknamed the Steelers?

Pittsburgh was once home to the largest collection of steel mills and foundaries in the US. There where mills stretching east almost to Johnstown, east to Weirton and Wheeling, WV and north to Beaver Falls. Pittsburgh was called Steeltown USA by those in the area. The Steelers used to be called the Pittsburgh Pirates. But then, since Pittsburgh has so many Steel Factories, and Pittsburgh is known for making steel. The steel factory decided to sponsor the Pittsburgh team if they would change there name to the Steelers. There logo, or symbol is also the symbol for the Pittsburgh Steel Factories.

Did the Pittsburgh Steelers ever have cheerleaders?

The Rooney family is classy. I can't find a reason but at one time they did. They were called the Steelerettes (steelerettes.com) and were a squad chosen from a local junior college. Once the junior college had their own football team, the Steelerettes disbanded. They were the official squad from 1961-1970. The Steelers were actually one of the first teams to ever have cheerleaders. They were named (are you ready for this?) The Steelerettes. How clever. They were basically a gimmick created to take attention away from how awful the team was. The squad only stuck around for about 8 years (61-69) before they were disbanded. As for why they don't have a squad now, can you imagine trying to find a group of attractive women who would be willing to bounce around in short skirts in the middle of December in Pittsburgh? They'd have to be crazy.
