Mantle was raised in a small town known as Commerce, Oklahoma. He had numerous leg injuries while he was young, which prevented some capabilities "needed" for a joyful childhood, such as playing catch a lot, tag, lots of little league, etc. Never the less, Mantle was known to have a decent childhood, where he learned some neccesary skills (as he got into his teens) needed to become the switch-hitting, power-hitter, base-stealing, all-star center-fielder for the great New York Yankees from 1951-1968.
