Cal Ripken, Jr played in 19 All-Star games starting in 1983 until 2001. He was voted to these teams consecutively and played the short stop position in every game except the 2001 game at (the old) Yankee Stadium. He was originally assigned the third base postion, but Alex Rodriquez and American League manager Joe Torre made a fielding postional change before the first at bat for the National League and Cal Ripken, Jr started the game in his normal field position at short stop for their first inning in the field. He played the third base position for the next two innings and Rodriquez played short stop.
