Carl Weathers played 7 games in 1970 for OAK and one game in 1971 for OAK. Then he went to the CFL BC Lions in 1971 and played 18 games until 1973. Retired Football in 1974.
Canadian (not just CFL) football was not 'invented.' It developed over many years, just like American football did. Countless numbers of people were involved in the development of both the Canadian and American games.
Kerry, Joesph, and he plays for the Saskatchewan roughriders There are but a few players in the NFL who have played in the CFL, the most notable of which are Jeff Garcia who actually started his career in Canada before getting his chance with the 49ers and Ricky Williams who played for Toronto when he was suspended from the Dolphins in '06 I believe. There were plenty of players who were in both leagues pre 1970 but since the games have became more and more different and call for different skill sets and every year sees less players making the switch. Notable players to get their big break in Canada before starring in the NFL are Doug Flutie (Flutie did play in the NFL before the CFL but without much success), Warren Moon, Joe Theisman, Rocket Ismail, Mervyn Fernandez and Harold Hasselbach (a DE who is the last player to win both a Grey Cup and a Super Bowl Championship). There have also been a handful of NFL stars who played in Canada after being out of the NFL including Andre Rison and Mark Gastineau. Current Washington Redskins fullback Mike Sellers played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2002 and 2003 and the Edmonton Eskimos from 1995-1997.

The first quarterback for the AFL Denver Broncos in 1960 was Frank Tripucka, nominally an assistant coach to Frank Filchock (both had been with the Saskatchewan CFL team).

Dieter Brock was one of the best CFL quarterbacks of all times. He spent 11 years in the CFL, playing for Winnipeg and Hamilton. He won the CFL's Most Outstanding Player award in 1980 and 1981. He holds Winnipeg's record for career passing yards and was elected to the CFL Hall of Fame in 1995. Brock played his college ball at Jacksonville State University, where he is also enshrined in the Gamecock sports hall of fame. After his successful years in the CFL, he later played in the NFL as well, for the Los Angeles Rams.
