"play" in hockey is more commonly referred to as a "shift." in hockey, a good shift is between 30-45 seconds long. to those that dont play the game it seems short, but it is actaully long because it is close to a dead sprint for the majority of that time. anything oer that time is a great advantage to the other team because of fatigue.- masta v
