The NFL Players Association and the owners agreed to allow teams to designate two players on their roster who are unrestricted free agents as franchise players. There are two types of franchise players ... exclusive and non-exclusive, and a team may designate one player as each. An exclusive franchise player may not negotiate with other teams. The player's team must offer him a one year contract which is A) 20% higher than the player's previous season's salary, or B) the average of the top five salaries for players that play the same position. Whichever is higher, A or B, is the salary the player will make the following season. A non-exclusive franchise player must be offered a one year deal the same, A or B above, as the exclusive player, however, he may negotiate with other teams. If the non-exclusive player signs an offer from another team his current team has the right to match it and keep him on their roster. If his current team does not match the offer they will receive two #1 draft choices from the team the player signed with.

A few types of franchising are trade name franchise, pure franchise, and a product distribution franchise.
If a player is traded, the franchise tag is basically null. The franchise tag applies only to free agency. However, if a team went through the effort and expense of putting the franchise tag on a player (paying that player the average of the top 5 salaries at the player's position), the possibility of them trading that player is highly unlikely.

The Canadian Franchise Association educates Canadians about franchising by giving them specific opportunities through events, trade shows, publications, and their website.
The franchise player for the Toronto Raptors is Chris Bosh. He was given this role when Vince Carter had left the Raptors. He was named franchise player after his rookie season.
Create the player and set your position and stats, most important choose a team. If you don't he will be on the free agents list. Save your player and then go to the depth chart to make sure he is a starter. Once confirmed go into a game and he should be there... If you want to use him on a team in Franchise make sure you save your player/roster prior to starting a franchise. Once you start your franchise you select your team (if this is a new franchise your player should be on that team).
you get to be that person that you trade with
