The name commemorates Black Hawk, a Native American of the Sauk Nation and a prominent Indian of the early 1800's, but the color scheme has no specific meaning behind it.
The four feathers symbolize the four Stanley Cup Championships they have won.
I doubt that they have any significance beyond being a good graphic. The original logo was sketched out by a "celebrity" dancer/vaudeville actress in the 1920s: Irene Castle.
Actually they started with one feather and add one for every championship won. Now that the Hawks won the Cup a fifth feather will be added.
Actually. No There have always been three feathers. Even before the 1 st 1933-34 cup win. So there is really no significance. After the 2nd 37-38 cup win there were still three.
Only after the 60-61 cup win did they add a fourth feather. So it could become a tradition to add a feather. And I think they should. (Good for marketing too). But it's never been consistent. Hopefully they will add a feather and make a tradition of it.
Their is no real reason that the Blackhawks Indian Head has four feathers.
Chicago Blackhawks. The Fighting Sioux adopted the same logo in 1964 which had been in use by the Blackhawks since 1955.
Chief Black Hawk is a prominent historical figure in Illinois and the team was named after him, the "Native American caricature" that appears as the team logo represents this fact. Please note that Native American caricatures of this nature are considered offensive by most Native Americans.
i can tell you this.... there is no reall meaning to the 25 stars on the flag for the NFL.

The Indian began with just one feather however the team has added a feather to the logo after each Stanley Cup Championship winning season (1933-34, 1937-38, 1960-61).
There is usually an Indian chief with the feather hat on the back of a Chicago Blackhawks jacket. Sometimes the logo is accompanied by the teams name.

Chicago Blackhawks
The Chicago Blackhawks team logo was created by Irene Castle, wife of team founder and coffee tycoon Major Frederic McLaughlin, in 1926 at the team's inception into the NHL. McLaughlin chose the 'Blackhawks' nickname in recognition of his time as commander with the 333rd Machine Gun Battalion of the 86th Infantry Division during World War I. His Division was nicknamed "Blackhawk Division" after a Native American of the Sauk nation, Chief Black Hawk, who was a prominent figure in the history of Illinois. Throughout the franchise's history, the logo has undergone minor changes but still closely resembles its original presentation.
According to NHL Tags and Tails, the NHL wore Nike jerseys with the "swoosh" and NHL logo on the tail from 96-97 to 98-99.
No they will not add another because the number of feathers are not the same as the number of Stanley cups that have been one their were four feathers on the Indian head long before they won there fourth Stanley Cup
