there are different levels of youth hockey starting with atom (9 and !0 years), pee wee (11 and !2 years), bantam (13 and 14 years), midget (15-17 years), juvenile (18 and 19 years)
usa hockey goes strictly by birth year 1995 &1994-bantam, 1996 &1997-pee wee, 1998 &1999-squirt, 2000 &2001-mites
Almost all coaches at the youth age are volunteers. Coaches that make money are high school's, junior's, and a few top Canadian and American AAA hockey programs.
Hockey is played in over sixty countries (perhaps more) at various levels of proficiency. The elite nations are Canada, USA, Russia, Sweden, Finland & Czech Republic. I suggest you check www.IIHF.com for a list of countries and the various championships they sponsor.
