After his career as a player ended, he entered coaching, first at the Coast Guard Academy and then for the Washington Redskins. After the Redskins, he returned to the Coast Guard Academy, ending his career as a college coach. He played for the Browns from 1946-1955. The first four seasons of his career, 1946-1949, the Browns played in the AAFC, the All American Football Conference, The AAFC was not part of the NFL at that point. The League folded following the conclusion of the 1949 season, The Browns (along with the San Francisco 49ers & the Baltimore Colts) were merged into the NFL.
