The answer is either Bobby Marshall of the 1925 Duluth Kelleys or John Nesser of the 1921 Columbus Panhandles, both at the age of 45.

With statistics not being vigilantly kept in the 1920s as they are today, it is difficult to determine the real answer. Historical/stats references show Marshall starting 2 games in 1925 and Nesser starting 1 game in 1921 but do not specify which games they were. With the men being born one month apart (Marshall on March 12, 1880 and Nesser on April 25, 1876) it cannot be determined which man was older when he started.

Maybe someone can add to this answer should they have those stats from the 1920s?

In the modern era, the oldest starter was QB Steve DeBerg of the 1998 Atlanta Falcons who started a game against the New York Jets at the age of 44 years, 279 days old.
