Since the 2003 draft, candidates for the NBA Draft are required to have graduated from high school at least 1 year prior to their candidacy and to be at least 19 years of age. Players looking to be drafted are not required to attend college although since the 2003 rule change most players go to and play for a college for at least 1 year. Prior to the 2003 rule change, players were eligible for the draft immediately after graduating from high school.
