Lenin hoped the Russian Revolution would start Communist revolutions in other countries. That was one reason he created the Communist International. He wanted the Bolsheviks to have an active role in fomenting Communist revolutions in as many other countries as possible.

Foremost he hoped it would topple the Provisional Government and allow the Bolsheviks to impose a socialist society on the country. Next he hoped that it would inspire worker revolutions in the other industrialized countries such as Germany, England, France and the United States so that communism could spread worldwide. What role did the Bolsheviks play in the Russain revolution of 1917?

Lenin played no part in the February Revolution of 1917. He was living in exile in Switzerland at the time and was actually taken by surprise that it happened. The February Revolution was a spontaneous uprising by the people of St. Petersburg that spread to other cities. Lenin returned to Russia courtesy of the German High Command of World War I, because the Germans hoped he would cause further revolution in Russia and take it out of the war.

How and why did Lenin return to Russia in April 1917?

Lenin was isolated in neutral Switzerland during the beginning of World War I. After receiving news of the February 1917 Revolution in Russia, he wanted to return there immediately to give instructions to the Bolsheviks about how to continue with the revolution and to defeat the Provisional Government. A Swiss Communist convinced the German government to send Lenin safely to Russia on a sealed train. The German government hoped that Lenin would provoke political unrest in his homeland, forcing Russia to surrender to the Germans, which would allow Germany to pull troops away from the Eastern Front to focus on the war in the Western Front.

When did Lenin's ideas about a workers' revolution in Russia change?

As late as 1916, Lenin was still in a polemic against Rosa Luxemburg regarding when and where a workers' revolution should begin. By that date he was still following the Marxist line that surely England, France or even Germany would be the place of a workers' revolution.

What is the deal made between vladimir Lenin and the German government in 1917?

The German government agreed to escort Lenin from his exile in Switzerland back to Russia in order that Lenin could provoke another revolution that would take Russia out of World War I. This would allow Germany to move all the military forces it had fighting the Russians over to the western front to fight the French and English. The February Revolution and the abdication of the Tsar had already occurred, but the new Provisional Government did not stop the war. Germany hoped Lenin would at the very least make the Provisional Government end Russia's involvement in the war if not completely stop it by taking over the government, which is what happened. Lenin was not only transported back to Russia but he and the Bolsheviks received money from the Germans as well. Many rival political people accused them of being paid German agents.

Where was Lenin when the 1917 revolution began?

Lenin was in Switzerland when the February 1917 revolution broke out. He was taken completely by surprise that it had happened as were virtually all of the various Russian revolutionaries. This was because that revolution was not a planned event. The uprising began as a spontaneous uprising by the people in St. Petersburg as they suffered with shortages of food due to World War I and the Russian Tsarist government's inability or unwillingness to take care of its people. The German High Command wanted Russia out of the war, so it transported Lenin from Switzerland through Finland to Russia in the hope that Lenin would cause a revolution which would take Russia out of the war. It worked.
