There are in fact 3 Cups.

1. The original bowl which was donated in 1893 by Lord Stanley of Preston which stays locked in a glass case on display in the vault at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was officially retired and removed from the rest of the trophy in 1963 due to it becoming brittle and compromised over the years.

2. The "Presentation" Cup which is the one which the players skate around with upon winning in the Stanley Cup Finals. This is also the cup which the players get to spend 24 hours with, each and is also the cup which goes on tour to various events/promotions. This is also known as the "Authenticated " Cup.

3. The "Replica Cup" (Produced in 1993) Unlike the "Presentation Cup", this trophy, although is exact in size and weight does not have the same spelling errors on it as the one which is presented every year. It also does not have the official seal of the Hockey Hall of Fame on the bottom. This Cup is put on display when the Presentation cup is out on tour or being awarded.

How long does a winning team get to keep the Stanley Cup before it goes back to the Hockey Hall of Fame?

The winning team has the Stanley Cup for the summer between hockey seasons. As part of this, each player and executive of the winning team is given one day during the summer when the Cup is in their possession. The Cup has travelled all over North America and Europe. This tradition was only started in the 1990s. Before the Hall of Fame existed, the winning team took care of the Cup until the next team won it. Once the Hall of Fame was started in 1945, the Cup was returned each fall for safe-keeping.
