Dr. James Naismith, a Canadian born instructor at the Springfield MA YMCA school, wrote the first rules for Basketball in December 1891.
The first game was played on January 20 1892. The goal was a peach basket nailed to the wall. The score was 1-0, and the wining goal was a 25 foot shot.

∙ 9y agoBasketball was invented by Dr. James Naismith in 1891. A peach basket, with its bottom removed, was pinned to the railing of the gym's balcony. To earn a point, the basketball must be shot into the peach basket.
