In Athens they were kept in purdah in the house rearing children and working in the house and garden. In Sparta, they were free to participate in daily life, play sports etc.
the only war between Athens & Sparta is the pelioponnesion war where Sparta fought Athens because they thought they were too powerful. in the end Athens surrendered and Sparta then became the most powerful.
One of Athens biggest rivals was Sparta.
argos did have some minor advantages in the ancient Olympic games. Their athletes had a ton of muscle, and were stronger than most athletes. Their athletes were trained in the arts and sciences. However, just because they were strong does not mean that they always won the Olympic games. Their biggest rivals were Sparta and Athens. Anyways, because their athletes were strong, they could easily crush their equals, the athletes from Corinth, a seaside city-state. Also, since they were trained in the sciences and arts, they always had a complicated plan of how to win a game. So, those were basically the advantages Argos had. Even though Argos did not have many advantages in the Ancient Olympic Games, their two advantages did go a long way.
Sparta
The Olympic Games were not started in Athens or Sparta. They were at Olympia in Elis.
I believe it was Sparta that did not have women participate in public life.
In Athens they were kept in purdah in the house rearing children and working in the house and garden. In Sparta, they were free to participate in daily life, play sports etc.

Athens had a democracy; Sparta, an oligarchy.
In Athens the women weren't free, they had to clean, cook, and had to be hidden when they're husband's friends comes over. In Sparta, the women were free and they could have jobs and go anywhere! But in athens, they had to ask for permission. In sparta, they had better security, they had the military but athens didnt care about the military. In athens, only men were able to vote and participate in the government but in sparta, women can join the military and get jobs also they can vote!
