NCAA seeding is based on a team's performance during the regular season and conference tournaments. Higher-seeded teams are matched up against lower-seeded teams in the tournament bracket. The seeding impacts the matchups and can influence the outcomes of the tournament by determining which teams face each other in each round. Teams with higher seeds are generally expected to have an easier path to advance further in the tournament, but upsets can occur, leading to unexpected outcomes.
Technically only 64 teams are in the tournament, but 2 teams play for the 64th spot, so you could also say 65.
No. The "March Madness" NCAA tournament that is broadcast on national television is for the Division 1 championship. Equivalent tournaments and championships are held for each of the NCAA's divisions. So therefore, Division II teams would play in the Division II Tournament.
As of March 30, 2012, two teams from Kentucky are in the 2012 NCAA men's Basketball tournament. The Kentucky Wildcats and the Louisville Cardinals play each other Saturday March 31st to determine which team will play in the championship game on April 2, 2012.
The NCAA tournament seeding is determined by a selection committee that ranks the teams based on their performance during the regular season. The teams are then placed in a bracket with higher-seeded teams facing lower-seeded teams in each round. The seeding impacts the teams' paths to the championship by determining who they will play in each round. Higher-seeded teams typically have an easier path as they face lower-ranked opponents, while lower-seeded teams face tougher competition.

Only 4 teams have won the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament at least 5 Times. UCLA led by John Wooten has far more than any, at 11. Kentucky is #2 with 7 wins, and both North Carolina and Indiana have 5 each. -RTancredi
The NCAA tournament distributes money to conferences based upon how many games the member teams play in the tournament. Then the conference divides that money equally among the member teams. For participation in the tournament the NCAA gives teams a travel allowance for each game that they play, but the real money comes from their share of the conference money. For example the MVC received $2.95 million based upon its success between 2000-2005, whereas the Big 12 received $14.4 million. Teams that make it to the first round this year and lose receive $82,000 in travel money, and they receive more if they advance.
