Through the 2008 Games in Beijing, Canadian athletes have won 58 gold medals in Summer Olympic competition and 38 gold medals in Winter Olympic competition. In the Summer Games, Canadians have the most gold in athletics and rowing. In the Winter Games, Canadians have won the most gold in speed skating and Ice Hockey.

Through the 2006 Winter Games in Turin, Canada has won 38 Winter Olympic gold medals (along with 38 silver and 43 bronze for a total of 119).

Canada has won 8 gold medals in ice hockey, 6 in speed skating, 5 in short track speed skating, 4 in alpine skiing, 3 in figure skating, and 2 each in freestyle skiing, bobsled, cross country skiing, biathlon, and curling and 1 each in Snowboarding and skeleton.

Women's ice hockey debuted as a medal sport at the 1998 Games in Nagano. The United States won gold at that Olympics (Canada won silver) and Canada won gold at the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City and the 2006 Games in Turin and the 2010 Games in Vancouver Canada.

Their gold medals have come in the years 1920 over USA, 1924 over USA, 1928 over Sweden, 1932 over USA, 1948 over Czechoslovakia, 1952 over USA, 2002 over USA and 2010 over USA. They won silver in 1936 losing to Great Britain, 1960 losing to USA, 1992 losing to Unified Team, 1994 losing to Sweden and bronze in 1956 and 1968.
