Actually the Colosseum was initiated by Emperor Vespasian. Emperor Vespasian started building the Colosseum in 72 AD. Gaining completion over the Colosseum, Titus, Emperor Vespasian's son, finished the Colosseum in approximately in 77 or 78 AD. Official opening ceremonies took place in 80 AD, about 3 or 4 years later.
