My husband says they have been playing since before 1928 that's the year my husband was born. Is this correct or is it sooner than that year.
I am a New Yorker born in 1934 and remember all my live the exsistance of Yankees playing Baseball in New York. I was raised in the Bronx, went to Walton High School and use to pass the Yankee stadium twice a day for 4 years. I did go see games in the Bronx. I do not remember the dates. I love the Yankees when they loose I cry when they win I sleep well. All of them are my favorite. I do not know how long they are playing because I live in Puerto Rico 51 yrs. I miss the games on t.v. cause they are not transmitted all the time. I get angry cause there is no need not to see them play but the companies do not transmit their games to Puerto Rico all the time.
I feel fortunate to see them this World Series playing cause it might be my last.
Thank you or letting me say what I feel. New York is my home, the Bronx is where I was raised, and soon I will say good bye.

The team was then moved to New York in 1903, and played at Hilltop Park in Manhattan. The ballpark was built at one of the highest points in Manhattan and so the team was then called the Highlanders. The name Highlanders was also the name of a British military unit The Gordon Highlanders, and the name of the teams President was Joseph Gordon.
As early as 1904 The press began to refer to the team as "the Yankees." The name Yankees was more commonly used in the coming years, and after the Highlanders moved to the Polo Grounds the reference to the team as the Highlanders no longer applied as they no longer played at a higher elevation. The team name was then changed to the more commonly used name the Yankees in 1913.
