Since war came first, perhaps the question should be, "How is Chess like war?" In both it is move and countermove, with each player's move influenced by the opponenent's previous moves. Strategy and tactics are involved. Psychology is involved. There are differences, of course. Never in war are opposing forces so evenly matched as they are in chess.
