British industrialization of the 1800s led to the rise of the middle class and with it, an increase in disposable income and leisure time available to the masses. These additional personal resources led to more individuals taking up sport as a leisure activity. Furthermore, new advances in communication led to more coverage of sport.

Growth of towns

In the 1800s the towns were not as built up as they are now, it was mainly countryside (rural), but in the mid-1800s following through to the 1900s Britain started to become more urban, especially places like London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Glasgow etc… as you can tell from the list above it was mainly big towns and cities that everyone heard of not places like Pen-coed, knaphill, St John's and Woking etc…

The way that many well-known towns got built up was very simple, they would make a lot of buildings, houses, flats etc… and would make sure the towns and cities were very attractive and entertaining.

Mass spectator sport

In the 1800 hundreds money was a big problem as people did not have enough of it, as the sub-title says mass spectator sport, money on this occasion was very difficult because everybody wanted to buy tickets, especially for watching football matches and Rugby matches.

To finish this section off sport was affected again because of money and how much it coasted to build stadiums and society affected it because of arguments of people not wanting stadiums and loud football matches near the house or flats.
