It was named after Fred Crampton a prominent businessman in Montgomery Alabama who donated the land. It is used by local High Schools. Sidney Lanier, Carver, Robert E. Lee, Jeff Davis. Alabama State University also call it home. For years it was the home of the Blue Gray All Star game. College teams that did not go to a bowl game sent their best of the best players and they were split up either North or South. This game produced more players for the NFL than any other.
