Most of the hardships faced was at school. Discrimination from all of the white Australians. Through Racism, separation of her parents and strict boarding school. A big hardship she overcame most was the discrimination towards her Baha'i faith, and says her faith, "I'm not a devout Baha'i but i like the prayers and I appreciate their values about the equality of all human kind". Her sister Anne-Marie died from an Asthma attack she died three days after Cathy had gone to Sydney 2000 where she won her gold medal. Her three brothers Garth, Gavin and Norman died in a car accident. Her father Norman died of a stroke.
