In mammals, including humans, nipples are the part of the breast where the mother's milk is designed to be fed into the infant. It is shaped and textured in such a way that the offspring can easily find it and hold onto it with their mouths, using what little suction strength they may have.

In males, nipples are vestigal organs serving little purpose; though it is possible to induce a male to produce milk, which might be able to save the offspring if the mother was killed or otherwise removed from the population.
