Doctors recommend monthly breast exams at your age so you can begin to know your own "normal." If you do breast exams on a monthly basis, you will begin to notice certain lumps and bumps that are normal for you. That way, if anything does become abnormal, such as a breast cyst or a tumor, you will be able to quickly recognize it and seek medical help. There's really no reason not to do them! As far as a Dr. exam, any time is a good time and then start monthly exams on your self.

Why not? Its part of what they train for. Are you saying people should only be treated by doctors of the same sex? Whats next? Would you only want to be treated by a doctor of the same ethnic group too?
